Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) occurs when the heart stops beating and breathing stops. If this happens, begin by calling 9-1-1 and prepare to perform CPR. It is important to get an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to the victim’s side within 3-5 minutes to keep the victim’s blood and oxygen levels moving. Once emergency medical professionals arrive, the AED will be used to determine if the victim needs a shock to reset their heart rhythm.
